Residential Alternatives
F·E·G·S operates more than 100 residences throughout the metropolitan area that annually serve more than 250 individuals diagnosed with developmental disabilities.
Family members or caregivers can be confident that their loved one will receive comprehensive services
that address the residential, medical, emotional, skills training, social, recreational, transportation, and family support needs of the resident. Selected residences are available for individuals who observe the laws of kashrut,
those on diabetic diets, and individuals who
speak Spanish. Specialized residences also
are available for individuals with developmental
disabilities who are deaf or hard of hearing
and/or have a secondary diagnosis of a
psychiatric disability, or who are diagnosed
with an autism spectrum disorder.
- Supervised Individualized Residential Alternatives (IRAs) in Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Nassau and Suffolk Counties on Long Island provide 24-hour staff oversight and supervision. Clinical supports (e.g. nursing, psychology, nutrition) are provided in the residence or at a clinic, based on a resident’s comprehensive individualized service plan (ISP).

- Supportive Individualized Residential Alternatives (IRA) in Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Nassau and Suffolk Counties on Long Island offer a variety of staff supports to individuals who require less than 24-hour staff supervision. These supports are based on the person’s individualized service plan (ISP) and typically include assistance with medication administration, food shopping, and banking. & Contact Information
- Individualized Support Services (ISS) are available in Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Nassau and Suffolk Counties, offering rent subsidies and providing home modifications to encourage individuals with a developmental disability to live as independently as possible.
