Overview


Persons with developmental disabilities who are 21 and older often face challenges as they strive to achieve greater independence and participate fully in their neighborhoods and communities. For more than 50 years, F·E·G·S has been committed to providing services and supports to assist each individual to achieve his or her unique outcomes in an environment that embraces excellence, caring, dignity, integrity, and respect.


F·E·G·S offers assistance through a variety of services, including service coordination, family support services, day habilitation, weekend respite, clinical services, vocational rehabilitation, supported employment and residential alternatives. Transportation to and from day and respite services is provided for those who are unable to travel by themselves. Services are provided in Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx, Queens, and Long Island.


Eligibility for services requires a primary diagnosis of a developmental disability (mental retardation, autism, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, neurological impairment, or familial dysautonomia). Eligibility for Medicaid and the Home and Community Based Services Waiver is also required. Individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing, are blind or visually impaired, and/or have a secondary diagnosis of a psychiatric disability are also served. All services are certified by and/or funded through the New York State Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities (OMRDD).
